Special Projects
AWAKEN Discipleship and Training Center is over 25 years old and receives hundreds of visitors each year. As such, the facility needs constant attention and repair. If you would like to help our ministry by undertaking a work project, below is a list of available projects. Please consider including one in your team schedule or making a trip dedicated just to the needs of the Center. You will be helping us to continue effectively receiving teams, students, and children to be ministered to here in La Gloria. Teams that provide both the manpower and materials for these projects are a double blessing. We have put these in order in terms of immediate needs or long-term projects.
Main Classroom Flooring
Our main classroom needs new flooring. Our desire is to place a hardwood looking composite. If you have this ability, please let us know. We also need new flooring in various guestrooms in the missions houses or painting of the existing linoleum to look like tile.
Landscaping
We always need assistance with planting, transplanting, and weeding projects. Great opportunity to study the Parable of the Soils!
Playground Sand Area
Our playground is currently encircled with tires. We want to remove the tires, level the sand area, and place railroad ties to create a secure barrier for the play area.
Painting
The facilities require regular painting in all the dorms and classrooms. It’s a great practical undertaking that creates a vibrant place of ministry. In addition, the exteriors of the buildings need to be painted. There are four main buildings, with the dormitories being the largest.
Teams can choose to paint one or all of the buildings, depending on their skill set.
Plumbing
We need a revision of the plumbing of the exterior drains of the missions house, which regularly clog and finding the water main for the facility.
Pavers
Installation of pavers in the key parking area creates a more stable area for vehicle storage and outdoor events.
Dorm Remodel
We would like to make our dorms more comfortable and a place for teams to debrief, pray and relax. To that end, we need to repaint; cut down one bunk bed to make it a trundle (and convert the other into a daybed/sofa); provide new clothing hooks and storage areas for backbacks and luggage.

Outdoor Stadium Seating
We would like to offer more outdoor seating for bonfires, retreats, and teaching by creating a stadium seating area above our fire pit area. This project involves digging out and leveling a hillside and then placing seating (concrete or wood) on the graded sections.
